During recent years while my interest in astrophotography has been increasing I have had this lens sitting on my shelf – I have only used it for shooting landscapes etc. But I’ve just learned that it might offer me that extra zoom needed to get a nice shot of deep-sky objects like the Andromeda or the Great Orion Nebula.
The only problem I had was that my old camera for which I used this lens had broken and I had decided to upgrade to a Nikon Z5 full-frame camera in the meantime. This left me with a choice. Either start saving for a new lens or buy a Nikon FTZ II knowing that the autofocus would not work because the lens was a Generation 1 Tamron lens. See Adrian Alford’s video on the Nikon FTZ II
I went for the FTZ option and guess what it has just arrived.

Now I am looking forward to putting it to the test hopefully we are going to have clear skies.
… An update
I have been using the Nikon FTZ II for quite some time now and I must say it has been a fantastic investment, not only has it brought my trusty old Tamron lens to file but also my nifty fifty 1.8. You can find some images taken with the Tamron and the Nikon FTZ II here.
